Victor Osimhen has been dropped from Napoli’s first team, and Romelu Lukaku, a recent acquisition, has taken over wearing the No. 9 shirt.
Following unsuccessful transfers to Chelsea and Al Ahli on Deadline Day, this action was taken.
Osimhen, 25, was reportedly in talks with Chelsea until the very last minute of the transfer window, and it was widely anticipated that he would depart Napoli this summer.
But no agreement could be made. In a similar vein, Al Ahli signed Brentford’s Ivan Toney after first agreeing to a deal for Osimhen.
Osimhen, one of Napoli’s best players last season, is currently in a difficult situation as these transactions fell through and he was cut out of their plans.
The Nigerian forward is no longer available on the Napoli website, and Lukaku—who recently arrived from Chelsea—is now identified as the team’s new No. 9.
