Tottenham 3-1 Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur secured a comfortable win over Nottingham Forest with a 3-1 victory, thanks to two goals from Harry Kane and one from Son Heung-min. The win helps to alleviate some pressure on Spurs manager Antonio Conte and reinforces the team’s place in the top four of the Premier League. Liverpool’s loss to Bournemouth earlier in the day meant that Spurs are now six points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side, and seven points above Newcastle, who have played three fewer games.

Kane opened the scoring with a header from a delivery by Pedro Porro, and later scored his 20th league goal of the season from the penalty spot after Joe Worrall fouled Richarlison. Richarlison, who had returned to the starting line-up after appearing to criticise Conte, thought he had given Spurs an early lead but his goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Son added to Spurs’ lead in the second half by steering a cross from Richarlison into the bottom corner, before Worrall pulled one back for Forest with a powerful header. Fraser Forster, the Spurs goalkeeper, denied Forest a second consolation by saving Andre Ayew’s late penalty after Dejan Kulusevski handled the ball.

Forest remain in 14th place in the Premier League, but their cushion over the relegation zone has been reduced to three points. Overall, the win provides a much-needed boost for Spurs and their manager, as they look to maintain their position in the top four and secure Champions League qualification.
