As Nigerians prepare for Valentine’s Day, Nigerian lawyer Stan Alieke issued a statement via his Instagram story on Friday, warning against making money cakes or bouquets, saying that it is illegal and punishable by law.

He said that this offense carries a minimum 6-month jail sentence and urged Nigerians to find alternative ways to show their love for their partners today, saying that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

He wrote, “Making of money cakes, money flowers or money bouquets are all criminal offences punishable with at least six months jail term as provided in S 21 of the CBN act 2007.

So if you have a money cake/money bouquet as one of the Valentine gifts you intend to gift your partner today, know that you may land yourself in jail and ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”
