On Sunday, Beyonce took home her first-ever Grammy for Album of the Year, which she received for her album “Cowboy Carter.”
The 43-year-old music legend won the most coveted trophy of the evening, defeating fierce rivals like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.
It was a moment of validation for Beyonce, the most nominated and honored artist in the history of the Recording Academy, who has been consistently passed over for top Grammys for over ten years.
“It’s been many, many years,” she said while accepting the prize, which she dedicated to Linda Martell, a pioneering Black woman in country who performed on the album.
“I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors,” Beyonce added.
Her albums were nominated for the top prize for the sixth time; Swift, Beck, Adele, and Harry Styles having previously won the accolade.
With 11 nominations, including in the major categories of pop, country, Americana, and melodic rap, Beyonce had the best chance of winning Grammys Gold going into the evening.
Album of the Year, Best Country Album, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus were the three honors she eventually won.
