Lead pastor of Celebration Church International, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, has spoken concerning the much-discussed topic of sexual assault allegations regarding the church. He adds that false accusations could lead to even greater danger while stressing that good understanding of consent was imperative.

In addressing a sermon recently, Pastor Iren spoke about being angry at first. “In the early few cases, I was furious,” he says; I actually called the fellow and threatened him with legal actions. But when evidence came forward, things looked very different.”

Investigation by Pastor Iren, however, revealed that most of the cases were not credible. “In this ministry, nine out of ten of those cases turned out to be false,” he claimed and cited an incident in which the so-called victim described the relationship as “a nice time” in text messages.

He indicated particular concern about the misuse of sexual assault allegations when they seem related to personal quarrels or failed relationships. “Breaking up should never be the trigger for false accusations; that is dangerous and unfair,” he cautioned.

To the young men in the congregation, Pastor Iren advised living a life of celibacy and encouraged exercising prudence in their relationships; the boys were advised to stay away from any situation that could be makeshift or injure.

He also took a firm line on the matter of consent, strongly reminding, “Initial consent does not mean perpetual consent. If you withdraw consent even moments later, you must stop immediately. Run. Respect boundaries.”

These comments have had a lot of people talking within and outside his church, especially as individuals noted and appreciated his forthrightness when it came to a difficult, sensitive topic. Pastor Iren added that all men and women were to put integrity, truth, and respect in all their dealings.
