A Nigerian, Vicktor, called off his engagement after discovering a disturbing message that his fiancée sent to an AI chatbot on WhatsApp. As he divulged on platform X, the heart-wrenching revelation was unexpectedly twisted and attracted much publicity.
According to Vicktor, she had always enjoyed talking with AI and usually consulted it on ideas for thoughtful things to do for him, including asking for birthday presents or suggestions about his favorite foods. So it was natural for him to want to take a peek into her AI chats after proposing to her and spending more than two months as fiancés—expecting to find something sweet. Instead, he was blindsided by her asking the AI, “How can a cheating partner stop cheating on her fiancé?”
The revelation hit him hard. Vicktor said they had been together for six years and had lived together for the last two. That trust was broken immediately, despite the long-standing relationship. To add to the complication, he alleged, his fiancée was in her final year in college, and her mother had always hated him. He ended the engagement without ever telling her the real reason.
“She still doesn’t know why I ended it,” he wrote in a viral thread. “I just wanted to see if she had talked to the AI about the proposal… but instead, I saw that message.”
