Leo Umana, the executive director of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS), has disclosed the only weapons men can use to “beat” their wives.
Umana took to his page to denounce domestic violence committed against women by their husbands, saying that if a couple decides they no longer wants to be together, they should leave rather than resort to violence.
This advice comes after reports surfaced that Isaac Mefo, a Uyo wedding journalist, was accused of domestic violence by his wife, Evelyn.
In response to the news, the director of Internal Revenue stated
“If the love is no more there, don’t turn violence and kill yourselves. You can separate for a while and return when peace is restored. Say no to domestic violence,” he wrote.
“No Man should beat a woman with his hands or sticks. The only instruments approved in beating her are Rods, third leg, money and alerts.”
