Toke Makinwa, a media personality and businesswoman, has dispelled myths in society that single people are depressed and lonely.
The former OAP gave her thoughts on singlehood after her recent Thanksgiving gathering was misinterpreted as a friend’s engagement.
Speaking on the social media site X, Toke Makinwa contended that the notion that being single means loneliness is obviously false and that there is life outside of a partnership.
“Beats me how some people think that every single person is lonely, it’ll shock you how content and happy single people are. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to do life with someone but if you don’t find your own purpose you can be with someone and still be lonely.”
In contrast to the pressure from society to be in a relationship, Makinwa highlighted the value of personal fulfillment. As the new year draws near, she urged a change of perspective:
“Let that rubbish behaviour of thinking single people are miserable or lonely or sad be left in 2024. There are so many people in horrible situations (whatever you call it) that secretly wish they were alone, so let people be.”
Many people have found resonance in her statement, which has sparked discussions on relationship dynamics and the stigma associated with being single.
